What would you recommend to others who want to be fit and healthy?

Carbs are friends! Diet and Exercise are not punishment for the things we eat! There is a misconception that if one eats bad, they need to do hours of exercise to maintain their physique. Climbing up a steal Mt. Everest will never truly ‘burn’ off what you ate. Moderation is key and rewards are necessary to nurture a healthy lifestyle. Transformation begins when a diet becomes a lifestyle. But most of all, a fit life requires consistency.

How does fitness positively influence your life?

My favorite thing about fitness is that it shows the beautiful capabilities our bodies have. It builds confidence and pushes us to keep improving. Fitness is not solely rooted in the body but with our emotional state as well. Fitness has rescued me from my darkest days and has given me life long friends along the way.

If you were the next Ms Health and Fitness, what would you do with $20,000?

I would 1)upgrade my classroom! I’m a English teacher and would love to add some home-y touches! 2)Finish paying for my Masters Degree in Bilingual Education 3)Donate to La Casa de Abuelita in El Paso 4)Buy copious amounts of peanut butter 5) Save for the next fitness adventure!
