Ms. Health and Fitness and Jared Allen's Homes for Wounded Warriors would like to thank Sarah Gabriel and her voters for helping us donate to our injured United States military veterans!

What would you recommend to others who want to be fit and healthy?

Find what works for you. There's no one fool-proof path to fitness, and even if there were--that's boring. Taking care of yourself in the best way possible is the goal--how you get there is the adventure. Enjoy figuring out what form of fitness you enjoy and what kind of diet or regimen can help you get to your goals AND can be sustainable long-term. There's no deadline so try different things until you find the right fit.

How does fitness positively influence your life?

Prioritizing my health has impacted me in ways I never expected. Not only do I just feel better by fueling my body with healthy foods and exercising regularly, but I have more confidence in every area of my life. I keep eye contact when I meet someone new. I take risks. I don't look at certain foods as "good" or "bad" and can pass those healthy habits on to my children. By taking care of myself, I have become able to take care of everyone around me.

If you were the next Ms Health and Fitness, what would you do with $20,000?

There are two causes very close to my heart: Helping veterans reintegrate after combat, and suicide prevention. My husband is a wounded warrior vet (Iraq) and we work with veteran organizations regularly to raise money to help vets in our community. I have been touched personally by suicide and support mental health advocacy and suicide prevention organizations whenever possible. I would also like to start a weightlifting program for girls in my community that focuses on confidence building.
