Mia Shanté

As an urban hippie, vegan food, pole dance, lifting and empowering women to do the same are my passions second to my lady and rescued pets.

Q&A

What would you recommend to others who want to be fit and healthy?

Start right away! Period. You can figure out the rest later - like the best foods for your body and the best program for you. What is most important is that you start. Get rid of the junk. Find something you enjoy - class, walking, biking, swimming, hiking. Keep it simple. You want to set yourself up for success. Then get to it. Set a schedule and go. The rest will follow. At some point you have to ask yourself - 1. How long am I willing to stay here? 2. What am I going to do about it?

How does fitness positively influence your life?

Fitness gave me my soul. I was an athlete in high school, but let it all go in college. I woke up on my 26th birthday saying enough is enough. I began jogging around the building I worked in and following youtube videos in the office when everyone else left. Pole, veganism, weight lifting and triathlons followed shortly after along with a size 4 dress size! It has given me a platform to help many people, especially my family. Seeing my mom drop 20lbs and the smile she wears now...priceless!

If you were the next Ms Health and Fitness, what would you do with $20,000?

I would invest in my business - Strong 4 Pole - so that I could help more women around the world, just as my coach has helped me. She was in a position to take me in when I had nowhere else to go and more than that she gives me, to this day, unyielding support. I want to be that coach to help other women realize their worth, talent and dreams, and know they have support to get them through.
