A 35 year-old USAF military wife, mom of 4 children, weightlifter, horse rider, dirt bike rider, runner, & creative to get my workout in
Ms. Health and Fitness and Jared Allen's Homes for Wounded Warriors would like to thank Melissa Simard and her voters for helping us donate $179,724.93 to our injured United States military veterans!
It starts every morning you wake up, take it day-by- day, and in stride. If you can't make it to the gym, take it outdoors or to the park with your kids; I keep a jump rope and a kettle bell, in my car always. Don't beat yourself up if you miss a day. Set goals that are reachable, and make them into obtainable steps so you don't get frustrated. I always flip open my Hers magazine and read an article or flip to a photo when I'm feeling less than willing to workout. Eat to nourish the body!!How does fitness positively influence your life?
Fitness is more than an image, it helps clear my mind. I'm quite busy all the time, with children, my husband gone a lot due to work, and just life in general. Fitness recycles my body, it de-stresses, gives me clarity on things that are troubling me, and helps me to be a better mom. I like to be fit to what I call 'body strong'; I like to push, pull, and lift my own body weight. I ride horses, do barn chores, ride dirt bikes, compete in tough mudder, etc There are physical and mental benefits. If you were the next Ms Health and Fitness, what would you do with $20,000?
I would pay back my church. I'm going to Guatemala on a mission trip with my church and they paid a large portion for me to go. Then I would put it towards my Masters so I can treat veterans, military and military families for counseling using Equine (horse) therapy. Right now, I have my BA in Psychology with a concentration on Child and Adolescent Development. I have assisted counselors in this method over the past year but would like to become the counselor. I have seen such huge benefits.
