What would you recommend to others who want to be fit and healthy?

The focus in reaching your fitness goals is found in the fridge. Don’t get me wrong-pumping iron is important, but proper nutrition takes the cake! Eating the correct amount of MACRONUTRIENTS (protein, carbs, fats) is key in sculpting your body. Getting adequate MICRONUTRIENTS (vitamins, minerals) is essential to your health. I always say, if it exists on Earth eat up. If it’s packaged and processed PASS! Experiment with different recipes to find healthy meals you enjoy eating.

How does fitness positively influence your life?

I decided to give the whole fitness thing a whirl my sophomore year in college after realizing being overweight wasn’t good for my TV meteorology career. At first, I was worried I wouldn’t have time to hit up the gym and food prep consistently considering my slam-packed schedule. To my surprise, when I worked up a sweat and switched my diet from cookies & milk to chicken, sweet potatoes & veggies I realized my energy, mood, mental focus and productivity shot way up!

If you were the next Ms Health and Fitness, what would you do with $20,000?

Well what girl couldn’t use a mani/pedi and new pair of shoes?! But besides all that, I have a vision of revolutionizing the way our country thinks about fitness and nutrition by bringing a customized program to schools and businesses. I just launched the pilot program at a school in Houston and it was a huge success! Right now my personal training business is what allows me to pay the bills, but the money from this contest will allow me to invest more time/resources into this program.
