What would you recommend to others who want to be fit and healthy?

Find an accountability partner. Tell someone -- whether they are your trainer or coach or best friend -- what your goals are, your time frame for your goals and ask them to hold you to that. This will go a long way in keeping you on track whether it's weight loss, building muscle, staying on a better meal plan, cutting sweets or processed foods out, etc. Any journey is better with a buddy and the journey to being fit and healthy is better when shared!

How does fitness positively influence your life?

I have been active since trying out for basketball in junior high. Fitness since then has morphed and taken different forms but positively influenced my life by teaching me to work within a team environment (high school sports), bringing me outside of my comfort zone (college sports), introducing me to new friends (adult group exercise classes), providing new challenges for me (certified group instructor, and trainer), and giving me goals for myself (Natural bodybuilding).

If you were the next Ms Health and Fitness, what would you do with $20,000?

My heart beats for those who are limited in movement by physical handicaps. I am a board member for the My Team Triumph Upstate chapter and have ran as an Angel in races where we push handicapped athletes in carts through 5k's, 10k's, etc. I would use the $20k to further support this organization and organizations like this one to give the gift of MOVEMENT to more individuals and allow more to feel the joy of fitness and exercise and the exhilaration of crossing a finish line over and over.
