What would you recommend to others who want to be fit and healthy?

If you are hangry by the end of the day then you need to eat more food! Food is fuel and being “fit” or “healthy” goes beyond the scale. Eat the food your body needs, pick an activity you love and train hard but most important trust yourself! It is all about living a balanced life. I lift and do Crossfit because I truly enjoy it. Exercise frees my mind from over thinking and keeps me eating all the peanut butter and sweet potatoes I want! No hangry muggle here!

How does fitness positively influence your life?

Fitness gives me space from all the pressure and stress I put on MY body. When I put my headphones on and lift the barbell I shut off the negative vibes. I feel free. Fitness also means family to me. A strong family is good for the mind and soul. The Crossfit “box” I belong to is like one big family that is there for one another through the tears, sometimes blood and constant sweat! There's no better feeling than crushing a challenging workout with your fit family.

If you were the next Ms Health and Fitness, what would you do with $20,000?

I thought fitness was all about the “look.” Now I know it is way more than that, it is a feeling. Unfortunately, not many young kids have that “fit feel” about themselves, especially in my school district. Most of my students go home to tough lives with no escape. If I won, I would create a fitness program with all kinds of exercise equipment for these kids so that they could hopefully shut the negative out and find their “fit feel.” Confidence is fit.
