What would you recommend to others who want to be fit and healthy?

There is movement out there that will make your heart race and your soul smile. Find what that movement is and chase it with reckless abandon. Eat the things that make you able to do it more, longer, and better.

How does fitness positively influence your life?

I often tell people that I exercise because it's the only way I stay out of prison. That's not an exaggeration. I have struggled with depression, anxiety, and a quick temper my entire life, all of which were worsened by the fact that I'm a passionate person who cares entirely too much about everything. Learning to train as an endurance athlete has guided my passion in a way that lets the rest of my brain do what it needs to do, and the rest of the pieces of my life settle into peace and place.

If you were the next Ms Health and Fitness, what would you do with $20,000?

I am a foster parent of both children and dogs, and have been looking to find a way to create a group home that enables teens in the system to pair with animals in need of rescue. $20,000 would go toward the down-payment on the facility I am developing to make this goal a reality.
